Better Technology for Better Margins: Exploring Ecommerce Success

Ecommerce growth may not have expanded during 2010 as much as industry leaders might have predicted, but finding advanced ways to leverage ecommerce technology continues to be top-of-mind as businesses bring more product innovations online.

There are many reasons why ecommerce is a good idea. Businesses are discovering easier—more profitable—ways to reach companies and customers. It’s apparent that those companies and customers are making more purchasing decisions online throughout 2010. Javelin Strategy & Research found “the U.S. online transaction market continued to grow [during 2010], occupying an increasing portion of total retail sales.”

Both Datamonitor Mintel International Group, Ltd. have shown how ecommerce sales are increasing around the world, especially in India, Australia and throughout Europe. Goldman Sachs reports ecommerce sales are growing at more than 19% each year. And Mary Meeker of Morgan Stanley says mobile ecommerce is a growing trend.

What does that mean to you, your business and your ability to appeal to customers?

As more customers go online, more businesses gain the opportunity to market products and services. Amidst all the noise of advertising, search marketing, mobile shopping and product development, the business that masters new ways to sell will win its share. If  that business adapts quickly and adjusts regularly, it will keep its customers closer.

At Inflexion Interactive, we coach business leaders on the importance of not just having a good ecommerce site, but embracing innovation. How? Product customization, such as Chocomize.com’s custom chocolate bars with the user-powered “creation station” we built in response to the mass customization trend. By employing design, development and marketing that doesn’t just improve results, it speaks clearly to the chocolatier’s target market. Social integration, such as blogging, was also a winning strategy.

How do you go from initial customer inquiry to lasting brand/business relationships?

Whether your products are featured on a robust and customizable ecommerce website or link to a mobile device via an easily scanned QR code, let us help you get to know your target audience by conducting thorough market analysis. We’ll help you know what your industry partners or niche customers want, and we’ll find ways to deliver on that.

Discover how we’re helping clients use innovation.
