Better Measure Your Marketing Goals Online

Better Measure Your Marketing Goals Online

How do you measure website traffic goals? By setting up and using the improved Goals tab in Google Analytics, you get relevant insights that matter most to your business.

Just as storefront businesses compare how many visitors walked in vs. how many customers checked out, ecommerce businesses must understand behavior. Google Analytics provides the tools to help these businesses setup, manage and make sense of the numbers, such as newsletter signups, contact form submissions or key purchases. Goals helps you realize a great deal from key data. We want to show you what’s new this year.

goalToo often marketing teams overlook the Goals dashboard in Google Analytics. With improvements to the Goals dashboard introduced May 2013 by Google, setting up and managing goals may be less intimidating. As you dive right in, we caution you not to go overboard with too many goals. Keep it simple. Here are a few tips to help you begin…

You set goals at the profile level. In the Admin tab, find your profile and click Goals. Click Create a Goal and follow setup. Questions? Visit the Help Center or reach out to us.

If you’re new to the Goals tab, you may not fully appreciate the new setup flow, the new templates or the new verification capabilities, but that doesn’t mean you won’t benefit.

New and precise templates help you setup goals based on your industry and your purpose for measuring activity, such as revenue, acquisition, inquiry or engagement. What’s more is you can easily verify these goals with website data from the past seven days. This new feature ensures that your business will benefit from tracking each new goal.

Beyond Goals setup comes a wealth of feedback to help you make better decisions. When you select one Goal you see how it performs over time. When you select two Goals you see the correlations. For example: view a product sales goal with a social media interaction goal to connect a rise in online engagement with a boost in sales.

Now is the time to make Goals an integral part of your Web analytics strategy. This feature will help you make sense of the behavioral metrics on your website. Making sense of the data helps you effectively and efficiently determine your next move online.

If you need support, we’re here to help you make sense of Google Analytics and Goals.
