We recently had a discussion about how to make sure our company name obtains top rank in search engines. While we post relevant content, exchange links and engage on social networks, Most searchers who mistyped Inflection Interactive wouldn’t find us.
Why? The U.K. spelling of “Inflexion” offered a chance to be original. But, when we looked at search engine activity, Inflexion Interactive didn’t nab searches from the more common U.S. spelling: “inflection.” As a result, it was harder to find us. That’s not good.
We had a problem: How do we optimize for “Inflexion” and “Inflection” simultaneously?
One solution: produce quality content that contains the word “Inflection,” as demonstrated by this blog post. We thought we would talk about this branding vs. SEO challenge so that it helps someone else with a similar challenge.
Why did we choose to spell Inflexion the way we do? We have our reasons:
- We felt many marketers were at an inflection point in their marketing efforts due to industry shifts, and it is at this inflection point where we are able to provide value, by bringing fresh and innovative thinking to help them bridge the gap.
- We wanted clients to reach their customers at the inflection point of marketing and technology, as well as the inflection points in the customer lifecycle, bringing the customer from awareness to preference, purchase and repeat customer.
- An inflection point is a point in a curve. The “X” in our logo represents this point
- The words “in”, “flex” and “ion” speak to our business, approach and industry.
- When we were growing our last agency, we spoke of being at an inflection point in our company’s growth. We wanted to channel that spirit into our new company.
How did we optimize this post? We employed search engine optimization (SEO) to:
- Include both keywords to establish a balance of keywords and content relevancy. Example: Inflexion Interactive is our name. An inflection point is our inspiration.
- Ensure the title, metadata and on-page content is optimized for both terms. This included bolding key terms and using heading tags, ideally H1 through H3.
- Embedding links to both internal pages of our website and external information on inflexion point, such as the link to Wikipedia to help us define the key term.
- Mentioning this blog post on the social networks we use to converse with you.
How did this post help us to create a balance between Inflexion Interactive and an inflection point? By deploying tactics mentioned above we now pop up first when searching for ‘Inflection Interactive’ (the most common misspelling of our agency name). See for yourself, and in the meantime, how may we help you?
